Ferdinando Fuga , 1699-1781, Italian architect. Fuga is best known for his rebuilding of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. He served as papal architect during the pontificate of Clement XII and worked later in Naples. He was considered a virtuoso in the synthesis of classical, baroque, and mannerist styles.
