Farrukhabad , joint municipality with Fategarh (total 1991 pop. 208,727), Uttar Pradesh state, N central India, on the Ganges River. It is a district administrative center and a market for tobacco, fruit, and potatoes. Perfume, cotton prints, and saltpeter are manufactured. A fort was founded (c.1714) on the site of the present-day town by the Afghan ruler Nawab Muhammad Khan. Farrukhabad was captured by the Marathas in 1751 and ceded to the British in 1802.
