The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition
Farnborough , town (1991 pop. 48,063), Hampshire, S England. It is the site of the Royal Aircraft Establishment, which does experimental work in aeronautics. Chemicals, electrical goods, and scientific instruments are produced. A civil and military air show is held by the Society of British Aerospace Companies biennially in Farnborough. "Farnborough Hill" was the home (1881-1920) of Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III. With her husband and son she is buried in the crypt of a church that she had designed.
