Estevan , city (1991 pop. 10,240), S Sask., Canada, on the Souris River near the N.Dak. border. Lignite is mined there, and clay and plastic products are manufactured. Oil, discovered in the 1950s, is also important to the economy. |

Estevan, Saskatchewan/Canada Founded in 1892, the town's name is believed to come from various letters within the names of George Stephen and William van Horne who were involved with the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
