Emerald Buddha
Emerald Buddha. Buddha image dating to the 1st century bce made of green malachite. The image was discovered in 1436 when a monument was struck by lightning and the image was found inside. It was taken to Chiang-mai, Laos, and finally to Bangkok in 1779, where it resides today in the Grand Palace. It is regarded as a symbol of the Buddha's protection of the king and people of Thailand.
