John, Sir Elton
John, Sir Elton (1947– ) English rock singer and pianist, b. Reginald Kenneth Dwight. John collaborated with lyricist Bernie Taupin (1950– ) on albums such as Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973), and singles “Rocket Man” and “Daniel” (both 1972). In 1997, he sang a revised version of “Candle in the Wind” (1973) at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Elton Hercules John 1947–, English popular singer, pianist, and composer, b. Reginald Kenneth Dwight. By the mid-1970s he had become famous presenting his own and other composers' songs in spectacularly staged productions. His songs include "Benny and the Jets,""Rocket Man," and "Candle in the Wind." He was knighted in 1997. |
