Ebbw Vale (Glynebwy) Blae. ‘Valley of the River Ebwy’. The river name means ‘colt’ (Welsh ebol), perhaps because horses regularly drank or forded the river here or because the water was ‘frisky’. The Welsh name is the equivalent of the English (Welsh glyn, ‘valley’).
