Donovan

Donovan ♂ Transferred use of the Irish surname, Gaelic Ó Donndubháin ‘descendant of Donndubhán’. The latter is a personal name from donn ‘brown-haired man’ or ‘chieftain’ + dubh ‘black, dark’ + the diminutive suffix -án. Its use as a given name dates from the early 1900s. The folk-rock singer Donovan had some influence on its increase in popularity in the 1960s.
