Dragonetti, Domenico

Dragonetti, Domenico (b Venice, 1763; d London, 1846). It. virtuoso on double-bass. In orch. of St Mark's Venice, at age 18. Went to London 1794, playing in opera orch. and giving nationwide recitals with cellist Lindley. Twice visited Vienna, where he knew Haydn and Beethoven. Played db. in f.p. of Beethoven's 9th Sym. Comp. solos for db. At 82 in 1845 led db. section in Bonn Beethoven Fest.

Domenico Dragonetti

Domenico Dragonetti , 1763-1846, Italian double-bass virtuoso. He appeared in opera houses in Europe and after 1794 in concerts in England. He was a friend of Beethoven and Haydn and left to the British Library a large and valuable collection of manuscripts and old instruments.
