Dire Dawa

Dire Dawa, Ethiopia ‘Empty Plain’ in Amharic. The local area is not susceptible to cultivation. It is possible, however, that the name comes from the Somali Dir‐dabo ‘Limit of the Dir’, one of the six major clans still present in modern Somalia.
