Deutero-Isaiah

Deutero-Isaiah ‘Second Isaiah’: the name often given to the unknown author of Isa. 40–55 (and by some scholars, of Isa. 40–66) who may have lived during the period of the Exile, but there are numerous theological and linguistic links with chs 1–39 and the whole book can be studied as a literary unity.

Deutero-Isaiah

Deutero-Isaiah. The name commonly given to the unknown author of the later chapters of Isaiah. Earlier critics, believing Is. 40–66 to be a unity, applied the term to the authors of all these chapters; it is now usually restricted to that of 40–55, which date from c.550–539 BC. See also TRITO-ISAIAH.
