Department for Work and Pensions
Department for Work and Pensions A UK government department formed in 2001 from parts of the former Department of Education and Employment and the Department of Social Security. It is responsible for helping unemployed people back into work and for administering unemployment benefit and other social security payments, including state pensions.

Work and Pensions, Department for
Work and Pensions, Department for UK government department responsible for the payment of universal benefits, the means-testing of other benefits, and collection of National Insurance contributions. It also administers the Social Fund and the Legal Aid scheme. See also social security
