Damodar
Damodar ♂ Sanskrit: ‘having a rope round his belly’, an epithet of Krishna based on the legend in which, as a child, he stole butter and broke pots of milk and curds in his foster-mother's house. She tied him to a large vessel by means of a rope round his waist to prevent him getting up to more mischief.
Feminine form: Damodari. |
