Damien Hirst

Hirst, Damien

Hirst, Damien (1965– ) English sculptor. He made his name by exhibiting sculptures of animals preserved in formaldehyde. One of these pieces, Mother and Child Divided (1993), which consists of the severed halves of a cow and calf displayed in four tanks, helped him to win the Turner Prize in 1995.
