DVI
DVI
1. Abbrev. for digital video interface. An emerging specification for providing a high speed digital connection for visual displays. It aims to provide a common interface for all display devices used by the PC industry. DVI provides high speed digital signals supporting up to 350 Mpixels/sec as well as conventional analog signals (SVGA etc.) in a single connector. Plug-and-play through hot plug detection is supported. DVI is increasingly being used with LCD displays that are purely digital in operation and there is no need for intermediate analog signals. This simplifies the circuitry and removes many of the synchronizing and aliasing problems encountered with analog-to-digital conversion. 2. Trademark; abbrev. for digital video interactive. A variant of the CD-ROM read-only optical disk format intended for the recording of images, including animated sequences. The technology encompasses motion video (with companion audio), audio, video stills, and text. A DVI end-user system includes special-purpose video, audio, and CD-ROM interface boards. See also CD-ROM format standards. |
