Cuttack
Cuttack , city (1991 pop. 440,295), Orissa state, E central India at the head of the Mahanadi delta at a main rail crossing. Founded in the 10th cent., it was famous for its filigree work. Cuttack is now an important trade center for rice and jute, and has rail and road connections to cities inside and outside Orissa. Its industries include milling, handicrafts, and other manufactures. Cuttack, the capital of Orissa state until 1957, is the largest city in Orissa. |
