Cowes regatta
Cowes regatta. Cowes week is held early in August and is the climax of the yachting season. Cowes castle, built by Henry VIII, has been the headquarters of the Royal Yacht Squadron, founded 1815, since 1856. East and West Cowes lie on either side of the estuary of the river Medina in the north of the Isle of Wight.
