Contreras, Battle of

Contreras, Battle of one in the series of battles in the Mexican War (1846–48) between Gen. Winfield Scott and Antonio López de Santa Anna, on Scott's campaign toward Mexico City. Won on the same day as the shorter battle of Churubusco, this American victory on August 20, 1847, led to Santa Anna agreeing to an armistice the next day.
