Colin

Colin

Colin ♂ Diminutive form of the medieval name Col(le), a short form of Nicholas. The medieval name died out after the 14th century. In the 19th century Colin was reintroduced to England from Scotland, where it is an Anglicized form of the Gaelic name Cailean, particularly favoured among the Campbells and the MacKenzies, which relates to St Columba (see Callum) as Crìsdean does to Christ and Moirean to Mary.

Variant: Collin.
