Coalbrookdale

Coalbrookdale in Shropshire was the site of the great development of the iron industry by the Darby family, using local raw materials and the river Severn for transport. The valley also produced steam-engines in the early 18th cent. and at the end of the century the Coalport china factory was established. The museum complex based on Ironbridge is one of the finest in the country.
