Claremont

Claremont, Australia, Jamaica, South Africa, USA 1. South Africa (Western Cape): named after Claremont House in Surrey, England, which was the residence of Sir John Molteno (1814–86), first prime minister of Cape Colony.2. USA: there are five towns with this name, the first one being founded in New Hampshire in 1762. There is some doubt as to whether it was named after the country seat of Baron Clive of Plassey (1725–74), who was given an Irish peerage in 1762, or a member of the Holles family, specifically the 1st Earl of Clare (c.1564–1637). The town in California, founded in 1887, was named after the New Hampshire town.
