Christophe Huet

Huet, Christophe

Huet, Christophe (b Pontoise, 22 June 1700; d Paris, 2 May 1759). French Rococo painter, engraver, and designer, a member of a family of artists. He belongs to the decorative tradition stemming from Berain and Audran and is best known for paintings and engravings involving animals dressed up and acting like humans (see singerie). Good examples of his work are in the Musée Condé at Chantilly. Among other members of his family the best known is his nephew Jean-Baptiste Huet I (b Paris, 15 Oct. 1745; d Paris, 27 Jan. 1811), a painter and engraver specializing in more realistic animal subjects (Dog Attacking Geese, 1769, Louvre, Paris). Jean-Baptiste had three artist sons.

Huet, Christophe

Huet, Christophe (1700–59). French Rococo painter, engraver, and designer, best known for paintings and engravings involving animals, dressed up and acting like humans (see Singerie). Several other members of his family were artists, notably his nephew Jean-Baptiste Huet (1745–1811), a painter and engraver, mainly of animal subjects.
