Sinding, Christian (August) (b Kongsberg, Norway, 1856; d Oslo, 1941). Norweg. composer and pianist. Lived in Oslo from 1884 apart from spell as teacher at Eastman Sch. 1921–2. Life pension from Norweg. Govt. 1910. Works incl. operas; 4 syms. (1880–1936); 3 vn. concs.; pf. conc.; pf. quintet; 2 str. qts.; 4 vn. sonatas; 3 pf. trios; over 200 songs; and many pf. pieces, incl. famous Rustle of Spring (Frühlingsrauschen), No.3 of 6 Pieces, Op.32 (1896).

Christian Sinding
Christian Sinding , 1856–1941, Norwegian nationalist composer, best remembered for his lyrical, romantic piano works, including the popular Rustle of Spring. He also wrote the opera Der Heilige Berg ( The Holy Mountain, 1914), orchestral works, chamber music, and songs. In 1920–21 he taught at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. |
