Okeford, Child & Okeford Fitzpaine Dorset. Acford 1086 (DB), Childacford 1227, Ocford Fitz Payn 1321. ‘Oak-tree ford’. OE āc + ford. Affixes are from OE cild ‘noble-born son’ (probably with reference to some early owner) and from the Fitz Payn family, here from the 13th cent.
