Charles Montagu Doughty , 1843-1926, English author and traveler. He is best known for his Travels in Arabia Deserta (1888), describing his life among the Bedouins. Now considered a masterpiece of travel literature, the book received little attention until it was reissued in 1921 with an introduction by T. E. Lawrence . Doughty's poems include the epic The Dawn in Britain (6 vol., 1906).

Doughty, Charles Montagu (1843–1926), is principally remembered for his remarkable record of Travels in Arabia Deserta (1888) carried out in 1876–8, republished 1921 with an introduction by T. E. Lawrence. It is notable for its extraordinary and eccentric style: Doughty mingled his own prose with Chaucerian and Elizabethan English and Arabic. His volumes of verse include the epic The Dawn in Britain (6 vols, 1906), Adam Cast Forth (a sacred drama, 1908), and Mansoul, or the Riddle of the World (1920).
