Carrollton
Carrollton 1 City (1990 pop. 16,029), seat of Carroll co., W Ga., on the Little Tallapoosa River; inc. 1897. Manufacturing includes fiber-optic cable, ropes, yarns, stainless-steel pipe, apparel, and prefabricated homes. The Univ. of West Georgia is there. 2 City (1990 pop. 82,169), Dallas and Denton counties., N Tex., a suburb of Dallas, in a rapidly growing area. The city's population nearly quadrupled from 1970 to 1990. Metal, plastic, and paper products; aircraft and auto parts; and electronic equipment are among the major products. |

Fry, James Barnet
Fry, James Barnet (1827–94) Union army officer, born in Carrollton, Illinois. Fry briefly saw combat before being assigned to administrative posts, most notably as provost marshal general (1863–66). In this position he successfully oversaw the implementation of the North's first national conscription system.
