Blondel de Nesle
Blondel de Nesle, a French trouvère of the late 12th cent. Legend makes him a friend of Richard Cœur de Lion. Blondel sat under a window of the castle in Austria where Richard was imprisoned (1192) and sang a song in French that he and the king had composed together; half-way through he paused and Richard completed it. Blondel returned to England and told of the king's whereabouts.

Blondel de Nesle
Blondel de Nesle , fl. late 12th cent., French troubadour, a favorite of Richard I of England. Legend relates that after Richard was captured and imprisoned by Leopold V of Austria in 1193, Blondel wandered through Germany, singing a song known only to him and his lost master, until Richard answered from his prison. Blondel was then able to tell the English where Richard was held captive. |
