Bie

Bié

Bié, Angola Silva Porto A province with a name slightly modified from that of a local 15th‐century chief, Vié. At the end of the 19th century it was renamed after António Francisco Ferreira da Silva Porto, a Portuguese explorer who died here in 1890. After Angolan independence in 1975 the name Bié was restored.
