Bethabara The scene of John's baptisms (John 1: 28) as given in inferior MSS followed by AV. All English translations from RV prefer the more likely reading ‘Bethany across the Jordan’, i.e. not the village of that name near Jerusalem.

Bethabara. According to Jn. 1: 28 (AV) the place where John the Baptist baptized, and thus presumably the site of Christ's Baptism. Many important MSS, followed by the RV, read ‘Bethany beyond Jordan’ at this point.

Bethabara

Bethabara , place, on the Jordan, traditionally located at a ford just above the Dead Sea, where in the New Testament John was baptizing when Jesus came to him. RSV: Bethany, following some ancient texts.
