Lumphanan, battle of
Lumphanan, battle of, 1057. On 15 August 1057 Malcolm Canmore defeated and killed Macbeth. The version given in Shakespeare's play runs together several encounters in different places. Dunsinane (Dunsinnan) is about 6 miles north of Perth: Lumphanan, whither, according to Holinshed, Macbeth fled, is due west of Aberdeen.
