Losecoat Field, battle of
Losecoat Field, battle of, 1470. Soon after his capture by Warwick's supporters after the defeat of his troops at Edgecote, Edward IV succeeded in regaining some freedom of action. In the spring of the following year, Warwick gave covert support to a Lancastrian rising in Lincolnshire, led by Sir Robert Welles. Edward defeated the rebels without much difficulty on 12 March 1470 near Empingham, 5 miles west of Stamford. In the rout the rebels tore off their incriminating coats and badges.
