Inverurie, battle of
Inverurie, battle of, 1308. A decisive victory of Robert I, king of Scots, over John Comyn, earl of Buchan, probably on 23 May. After his escape at Slioch, Robert was able to capture strong points on the coastal plain of Moray and in the Black Isle before returning to Buchan, where, near Inverurie, he routed the earl's forces. He then ravaged the whole of Buchan. Comyn fled to England, leaving Robert to exploit his victory by forcing the earl of Ross to make peace and submit on 31 October 1308. The battle thus gave Robert control of the north.
