Battle of Glenshiel

Glenshiel, battle of

Glenshiel, battle of, 1719. A small Spanish force landed at Loch Alsh in April 1719 to support the Jacobite cause. But the other part of the invasion was aborted, they received little local support, and Wightman advanced against them from Inverness. On 10 June the two groups, each about 1,000 strong, met at Glenshiel. After a short engagement, the Scottish Jacobites fled and the Spaniards surrendered.
