Dussindale, battle of
Dussindale, battle of, 1549. Kett's rebellion in Norfolk in 1549 posed a formidable threat to the government of Protector Somerset, since it coincided with widespread disorders in the west country. One relief force under William Parr, Lord Northampton was driven out of Norwich and Lord Sheffield killed. In August Lord Warwick (Northumberland) was dispatched with a sizeable force, stiffened by German mercenaries. Warwick avoided being trapped in the alleyways of the city and attacked on 27 August just outside the walls. After heavy fighting and a successful cavalry charge against the rebels, Warwick offered pardon, which most of the peasants accepted.
