barrenness
barrenness It was the worst of misfortunes for a Hebrew or Jewish wife not to bear children (1 Sam. 1: 10 ff.). So the prediction that women who were childless will be thankful is an indication of how appalling will be the disaster to fall on Jerusalem (Luke 23: 29). The city was captured and destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE after the Jewish rebellion.
