barbet

barbet Brightly coloured, poor-flying tropical bird, known for its monotonous call. It is stout-bodied with a large head, heavy bill, beard-like bristles and short legs. The female lays 2–5 white eggs in a nest hollowed out of a tree branch. Length: 9–30cm (3.5–12in). Family Capitonidae. Genus Megalaima.
