Bar-jesus , called Elymas , in the New Testament, Jewish sorcerer at Paphos who tried to divert a prospective Christian convert and was cursed with blindness.

Elymas Also called Bar-Jesus; a Jewish sorcerer at Paphos (Acts 13: 6–12). When Elymas tried to dissuade the proconsul of Cyprus from embracing Christianity, Paul caused him to be struck with temporary blindness. The proconsul was ‘astonished’ (NRSV).
