Bad Homburg, Hesse/Germany The full name is Bad Homburg vor der Höhe which denotes a spa town (since 1834) at the foot of the (Taunus) mountains. Homburg means ‘High Fortress’, a reference to the Hohenburg Fortress, built in the 12th century but now in ruins. The town has given its name to the felt hat with a lengthways furrow in the crown which was first made here.
