Ava

Ava , village, central Myanmar, on the Ayeyarwady River, 10 mi (16 km) S of Mandalay. Founded in 1364, it was the capital of a dynasty of Burmese kings until 1783 (when it was replaced by Amarapura ) and again from 1823 to 1837. Only ruins remain of its former greatness.

Ava, Burma Ratnapura Founded in 1364 as the capital of a Burmese kingdom (1364–1527, 1636–1760, 1764–1841) in central Burma of which little now remains. The earlier Pali name meant ‘City of Gems’. Ava, also known as Innwa, may be a version of the Burmese Ing‐wa ‘Entrance to the Lake’ because the city was built near the entrance to a lagoon by the River Irrawaddy. It was more commonly called by the Burmese A‐wa ‘The Mouth’.
