Auberon

Auberon

Auberon ♂ From an Old French name of Germanic (Frankish) origin. There is some doubt about its origin; it may be connected with Aubrey or be derived from adal ‘noble’ + ber(n) ‘bear’. Its best‐known bearer in recent times was the writer and journalist Auberon Waugh (1939–2001), and, as Oberon, it was borne by the king of the fairies in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Variant: Oberon.
Short form: Bron.
