Ardmore

Ardmore

Ardmore [Ir., and ScG, ard mor, great height]. A place-name that appears at least ten times in Ireland and Gaelic Scotland, the best-known of which is the village and early monastic site in south Co. Waterford. By tradition the abbey was founded by St Declan (or Déaglán), chief saint of the Déisi. Ardmore and its tall, round tower was so widely known as to appear in Breton legends as well as in Irish ones.
