Archaeoastronomy

archaeoastronomy

archaeoastronomy The study of the astronomical significance of archaeological remains and artefacts, particularly large stone structures (megaliths). Structures such as Stonehenge in England and the Great Pyramid in Egypt have components which are oriented to align with the positions of celestial bodies at significant times of the year. This suggests that they were constructed at least partly for astronomical purposes, although further interpretation remains largely speculative.
