Arabah

Arabah or Araba , depression, on the Israel-Jordan border, extending c.100 mi (160 km) from the Dead Sea S to the Gulf of Aqaba; part of the Great Rift Valley complex. Limestone, salt, and potash are mined near the Dead Sea. In the Old Testament, Arabah is variously called a wilderness, a plain, and a desert. It is sometimes spelled Aravah.

Arabah

Arabah The desert valley which runs from the Sea of Galilee to the Red Sea was an important trade route from north to south. In Job 24: 5 it is translated ‘desert’ by NRSV and NJB and ‘wilderness’ in REB.
