Aquila

Aquila , in the New Testament, Christian of Jewish origin from Pontus who lived at Rome. He and his wife, Prisca or Priscilla, were friendly to Paul.

Aquila (abbr. Aql, gen. Aquilae) A constellation on the celestial equator, representing an eagle. It is marked by the bright star Altair (Alpha Aquilae), flanked by Beta Aquilae (Alshain) and Gamma Aquilae (Tarazed). Eta Aquilae is one of the brightest Cepheid variables, ranging from magnitude 3.5 to 4.4 with a period of 7.2 days.

Aquila (2nd cent. CE). Translator of the Hebrew Bible into Greek. It survives only in fragments. Rabbinic sources confuse Aquila and Onkelos, the author of the Targum on the Pentateuch.
