Angharad
Angharad ♀ (Welsh) From the Old Celtic intensive prefix an- + cār ‘love’ + the noun suffix -ad. This was the name of the mother of the 12th-century chronicler Giraldus Cambrensis (‘Gerald the Welshman’). In the Mabinogi, Angharad Golden Hand at first rejects Peredur's suit, but later falls in love with him when he comes back as the unknown Mute Knight. The name has been strongly revived in Wales since the 1940s, borne, for example, by the actress Angharad Rees (b. 1949).
