Alfred Mossman Landon 1887-1987, U.S. politician, b. West Middlesex, Pa. He was a banker and oil operator before he ran for public office. Landon served (1933-37) as governor of Kansas and gained a national reputation by his economic administration. As Republican candidate for president in 1936, running against Franklin Delano Roosevelt, he carried only Maine and Vermont. Nancy Landon Kassebaum-Baker is his daughter.
