Alexander Stuart Murray

Alexander Stuart Murray 1841-1904, Scottish archaeologist. He was assistant keeper (1867-86) and keeper (from 1886) of Greek and Roman antiquities at the British Museum. From 1894 to 1896 he was in charge of excavations in Cyprus. Among his writings are Manual of Mythology (1873, rev. ed. 1935), Handbook of Greek Archaeology (1892), Terra-Cotta Sarcophagi (1898), and Excavations in Cyprus (1900).
