Dyce, Alexander

Dyce, Alexander (1798–1869), scholar. His editions include the works of G. Peele (1828 and 1829–39), T. Middleton (1840), Beaumont and Fletcher (1843–6), Marlowe (1850), J. Ford (1869), R. Greene (1831, 1861), and J. Webster (1830, 1857). He produced a full edition of Shakespeare's works (1857, 1864–7) and was the first editor of Sir Thomas More (1844). He left his valuable collection of books and manuscripts to the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Alexander Dyce

Alexander Dyce , 1798–1869, Scottish editor. He is best known for his scholarly editions of the works of Elizabethan and Jacobean dramatists, including those of George Peele, Robert Greene, John Webster, Christopher Marlowe, Beaumont and Fletcher, and a nine-volume edition of Shakespeare (rev. ed. 1864–67).
