Ailsa

Ailsa ♀ Modern Scottish name derived from Ailsa Craig, the name of a high rocky islet in the Clyde estuary off the Ayrshire coast, near the traditional estates of the Scottish Kennedys. Ailsa Craig (whose name is actually from Old Norse Alfsigesey ‘Alfsigr's island’) is known in Gaelic as Allasa, but popularly as Creag Ealasaid (see Ealasaid).

Ailsa ♀ (Scottish) Modern name taken from the name of the rocky islet Ailsa Craig, which is from Old Norse Alfsigesey ‘island of Alfsigr’ (a personal name derived from alf ‘elf, supernatural being’ + sigi ‘victory’). Use as a given name has been influenced by Ealasaid.
