Adenosine

adenosine

adenosine (ă-den-ŏ-seen) n. a compound containing adenine and the sugar ribose: it occurs in ATP (see also nucleoside). It is also injected as an anti-arrhythmic drug to stop supraventricular tachycardias and restore a normal heart rhythm.

adenosine A nucleoside comprising one adenine molecule linked to a D-ribose sugar molecule. The phosphate-ester derivatives of adenosine, AMP, ADP, and ATP, are of fundamental biological importance as carriers of chemical energy.
